Barbara Jenkins Rethink HomelessnessDr. Barbara Jenkins has been dedicated to serving the needs of students for more than 25 years. She was named Superintendent for Orange County Public Schools in 2012.

Under Dr. Jenkins’ leadership, Orange County Public Schools has been selected as the winner of the 2014 Broad Prize for Urban Education, earning $500,000 in scholarship dollars from the prestigious Broad Foundation. The district also received the 2014 Governor’s Sterling Award, the highest award an organization can receive for performance excellence in Florida.

As the former Deputy Superintendent for Orange County, Jenkins served as the Superintendent’s designee and oversaw five area superintendents and the Division of Teaching and Learning. In her prior tenure as Chief of Staff, she also oversaw human resources, public relations, labor relations, strategic planning, and served as the chief negotiator for the district.

Jenkins received the 2014 Visionary Award recipient by the Girl Scouts of Citrus Council and the Central Florida Woman of the Year for 2014 by the Women’s Executive Council.
The Orlando Sentinel and Orlando Magazine recognized Jenkins’ commitment and influence when they named her one of Central Florida’s ten most powerful people in 2014.

Deeply engaged in the community, Dr. Jenkins serves on the board of the United Arts of Central Florida, the Winter Park Health Foundation, the YMCA of Central Florida, the Central Florida Regional Commission on Homelessness, and the Orange County Youth Mental Health Commission.
