The Rethink Homelessness Pledge
A walk through the streets of Central Florida makes one message clear: our community suffers from a crisis around those without a home of their own. We are seeing growing numbers of those who are chronically homeless and a rising tide of our “invisible” homeless, individuals and families living in hotel rooms and shelters who do not have a permanent place to call home.
The Central Florida Commission on Homelessness exists to engage the public on the issue of homelessness and to illustrate that Orlando’s problem is everyone’s problem. Whether you see homeless citizens daily or hear about those who live on the streets on the news, our job is to remind you that this situation cannot be ignored. We must come together to implement community-based solutions to empower Central Floridians in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties to take action.
You can begin by signing our pledge.
Rethink Homelessness Pledge
Last night, thousands of your fellow Central Floridians slept on sidewalks, park benches, overpasses, and habitations not suitable to be called a home.
I believe this is a travesty.
I believe that all our homeless neighbors deserve to be treated with respect and dignity.
I believe that homelessness in Central Florida is an issue that affects us all--not just those living on the streets.
I believe we should face this issue as a community instead of pretending that it doesn’t exist.
I believe that through education, then action, I can help eliminate homelessness in Central Florida.
I believe there is something concrete and specific I can do today to help make a difference for those in need, like raising awareness among my friends and colleagues, contributing my personal resources, or volunteering at local organizations who serve the homeless every day.
I believe that ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE, and many people working together can create lasting change. I pledge to be a voice for the homeless and an advocate for change.
I AM READY TO IMPACT HOMELESSNESS IN OUR COMMUNITY.
